The
regular monthly business meetings of the Sarasota Orchid Society are
held in the Activities Center on the grounds of the beautiful Marie
Selby Botanical Gardens. The Gardens are located at 811 South Palm
Avenue in Sarasota, Florida. If you need directions to Selby Gardens click
here for a map. On arrival at the Gardens, directional
signs will point you to the meeting facility. Meetings are held
on the first Monday of each month starting promptly at 7:30 P.M.
Cultural classes meet every other month at 6:30 P.M. Be sure to
check the calendar below for details. Visitors are always welcome
to attend our cultural classes, as well as the business meetings.
Our meetings generally consist of a business meeting, a judged “Show and
Tell Table” displaying
plants grown by our members, a guest speaker or presentation, raffle
of beautiful orchid plants, and of course, refreshments. Please join
us…it’s lots of fun!

Carpenter Topic: "Warm
Tolerant Cymbidiums" He is a past president and life member of the Orchid Society of the Palm Beaches. He is also President, Trustee, life member, and accredited judge for the American Orchid Society. Milton is a world-renowned speaker, author, hybridizer, grower, photographer and explorer, having made numerous trips to different countries of the world to study and photograph orchids in their habitat. His quest in hybridizing has been to “take the road less traveled” and develop new hybrids within the Oncidiinae and Cymbidiinae, which will thrive in warm as well as cool climates.

It's showtime! Showing plants is as much a part of belonging to an orchid
society as anything else we do, and this is our show, so we want them to
look there very best! Plus, it's kind of nice to deliver our plants ready
to go directly into the display rather than leaving it up to the people
who are already doing all the work putting in the display, don't you think? Well,
I think so, and I will plan to share all the knowledge I have about preparing
our plants for display at the October SOS Show at the October meeting.
